1,000 out-of-status construction workers will be able to immigrate

In 2019, IRCC, in partnership with the Canadian Labor Congress (CLC), launched a pilot permanent residency program for 500 out-of-status workers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) construction industry.

Building on the success of this initiative, IRCC is extending and expanding the pilot program, doubling its reach to 1,000 construction workers without status in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

The program recognizes the critical role that construction workers play in communities. Allowing them and their families to achieve permanent residency is part of this recognition.

This program is one of several measures implemented to address Canada's labour shortage, grow the economy and build our communities.
