“I think you really need to be careful and have a job offer secured… going to study might not be the best idea.”
At first glance, that statement might sound reasonable — after all, who wouldn’t want to arrive in Canada with a guaranteed job, a steady income, and financial security?
But is that really the only viable path? Is studying in Canada really not worth it? Let’s dig a little deeper.
It's very common to hear that the “ideal” scenario is arriving in Canada already employed, with a closed work permit and everything lined up. But in reality, that path is rare — and comes with several limitations.
Now think from the perspective of a Canadian employer: why would they go through the process of hiring someone who’s still abroad, with all the paperwork and delays involved, when there are hundreds of qualified candidates already in Canada, ready to start right away?
On top of that, a closed work permit tied to a specific employer leaves you completely dependent on that company. That means if something goes wrong — the position is cut, the contract changes, or there’s any kind of issue — you could lose your legal status in Canada and be left with very few options.
The vast majority of people who are legally living in Canada today didn’t arrive with a job offer. They came as international students, took things one step at a time, and gradually built a solid foundation — often leading to permanent residency.
This journey usually involves studying at a recognized college or university, working part-time during the program and full-time afterward (with a PGWP), gaining Canadian work experience, and eventually applying for PR through pathways like the CEC or provincial nominee programs (e.g., BC PNP).
Compared to the closed-work-permit route, this path is not only more accessible and realistic — it also gives you greater freedom, flexibility, and long-term security.
There’s no single “best path” that works for everyone. The best path is the one that fits you — your age, education, English level, family situation, goals, and financial capacity.
And that’s exactly what we help with at e-Visa: we evaluate your profile and build a strategic, personalized plan that gives you the clarity and confidence to move forward with your journey.
