What is The Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP)?

Like all Provincial Programs to immigrate to Canada, the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program takes into consideration their province own economical and geographical needs and is aimed at foreign workers or students who have the specific skills, education and work experience the province is looking for.
And who can qualify for the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP)?

Much the same to other Canadian Provincial Immigration Programs, the Ontario Nominee Program, divides their nomination in what are called “streams” which are all under the Express Entry System. Let us talk about the most common streams for the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP):

Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) Streams that require the support of an employer in Canada:

  • Foreign Worker Stream
  • International Graduate Stream
  • Skilled Trades stream
  • In-Demand Skill Stream

The Foreign Worker and International Graduate Stream requires the applicant to receive a Job Offer that fits within the NOCs A, B ou 0, from an canadian company. The Skilled Trades and In-Demand Skill Streams have their own list of eligible occupations.

Here is the good news: there is no language requirements or age limit to apply for these employer-driven Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) Streams!

However, the Canadian employer does need to fit certain criteria:

  • The employer is required to be established in Canada for at least 3 years.
  • If the company is located in the Greater Toronto Area, they are required to have at least 5 employees who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents and a gross revenue of at least CAD$ 1 million a year.
  • Outside the Greater Toronto Area, the employer must have a minimum of 3 citizens or permanent residents of Canada as employees, and a gross revenue of at least 0.5 million Canadian dollars a year.

Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) Streams that do NOT require a job offer:

  • Human Capital Priorities stream
  • French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream

For the Human Capital Priorities stream, the requirements are similar to those for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW).

The applicant must have:

  • Have English or french language skills of at least CLB 7
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of qualified work experience within the NOCs 0 A or B in the last 5 years.
  • Have at least one degree (bachelor’s or masters).
  • Be in the Express Entry pool with a score of at least 400 points.
  • Appoint Ontario as your intended province destination (on the Express Entry Profile).

As for the French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream, most of the requirements listed above are still needed, however, there are some differences:

  • The applicant must have French language proficiency of at least CLB 7 AND English language proficiency of at least CLB 6.
  • This stream does not require a minimum of 400 points on the Express Entry pool.

Also, make sure you have the minimum amount for establishing yourself in Canada: your proof of funds.

What is the application process like?

Well, first of all, you need to select which program best suits you. Take our free assessment and talk to one of our regulated Canadian immigration consultants.

Then, you need to make sure you meet all of the requirements for that program.

It is very important to plan everything in advance! Ontario is a very popular immigrant destination, and some streams open once or twice a year, and the window for new applications often opens and closes in a matter of minutes!

Luckily, we have a well structured system here at e-Visa. In the last OINP stream, the application window was only 20 minutes, but we successfully registered ALL of our clients!

Once you get that application approved and have a nomination from the Ontario government, you can now apply for permanent residency in Canada.

Keep in mind: The Government of Canada makes the final decision on who becomes a permanent resident.
